Saila's outfit blends contemporary style with her proud Inuit heritage. Her gathered neck t-shirt with an embroidered maple leaf gets an added layer of warmth from the zip-up vest. Her dark jeans have a subtle sparkle so that they glisten like new-fallen snow. On her feet she has traditional kamiik  with embroidered felt socks.

This premium quality doll is 46cm (18 inches) tall has a soft, huggable body and poseable arms and legs. Her eyes open and close.  She has dark black-brown hair, brown eyes and medium dark complexion.

Saila's 64-page story journal has 3 versions included: English, French and Inuktitut!  The journal expands to include the extra journal pages that come with each outfit.  The journal includes an extensive glossary as well as a sections with questions, blanks and prompts so you can tell your story too!

A brush is not included with the doll and story journal. To keep the hair on your Maplelea Girl looking its best, we highly recommend the use of a brush with bristles that are made of metal and have rounded ends.  Our KM8 Maplelea brush is especially designed for use with these dolls.

Everything is enclosed in a beautiful, newly re-designed keepsake window box that you can use to hold Saila's accessories.

Meet Saila Doll, Outfit, Story Journal, and Keepsake Box

Hi!

My name is Saila Qilavvaq and I live the furthest north!

My home is in Iqaluit, Nunavut. I speak English and Inuktitut and am proud of my Inuit heritage. I love wearing my traditional amauti, kamiik and Pang hat, and eating country foods, pizza and my grandma's bannock and crowberry jam.

Our family likes to go to our camp in all seasons. In summer when the ice is gone, we travel up the coast by boat, and in winter we all pile into the qamutiik that Dad pulls with the snowmobile.

Someday I would like to be a fashion designer and create modern clothing with an Inuit flair! I am so excited — I am getting a new puppy! He is almost all white and so I named him Nanuq, which means polar bear.

Extensive research went into the creation of Saila. Visit The Making of Saila page to learn more about the process of developing our Maplelea Girl from Nunavut.

This American Girl Fan is SMITTEN

I've been an American Girl doll collector for 24 years, Saila is my very first Maplelea doll, and all I can say is... WHY didn't I start collecting Maplelea dolls sooner? The quality is impeccable from head to toe to box to journal - I'm especially obsessed with Saila's beautiful, silky hair. It's so easy to brush, and even after considerable brushing, it's maintained its wave - can't say that for most dolls I've had with wavy hair. I also must say, I've never touched a doll wig that felt this real! I can't recommend Maplelea enough no matter what kind of dolls you collect if you're a doll collector like me, or even if you aren't a collector - you won't be disappointed.

Saila Rocks!

I ordered the Maplelea Saila doll because she is a modern First Nations doll, unlike the historical American Girl Kaya. American Girl does not seem to have a doll representative of the modern Native American. The doll is excellently made and resembles a Canadian First Nations friend. My only problem with it is the boots. The curved soles may be authentic, but the doll cannot stand on its own in them.

SWEET SAILA!

To see Saila in person is to fall in love with her! Her expression is so sweet and she is made with the same great quality as all Maplelea Dolls! I enjoy reading about her indigenous background and want to collect all the outfits that go with her story!

Saila Meets Her New Girl 💕

My five year old granddaughter was overjoyed to receive Saila in the mail, a new sister for her first doll, Leonie. She lovingly cares for both these well made dolls and their carefully crafted accessories. I'm a happy Grandma!
