This year, 2023, marks 20 years of Maplelea! What a journey it has been!
In 2003, after over a decade of research, I was proud to launch a doll brand that would align with the values I wanted to instill in my own daughter. I didn’t want to emphasize body image, dating, glamour and sophistication like so many dolls lining toy shelves. Childhood is short enough and our daughters shouldn't wish it away, longing for the day they are older. Instead, Maplelea dolls were designed to be positive, age-appropriate role models for girls aged 6-12+. They were designed to promote creative play, healthy active lifestyles and a knowledge and pride of the country we call home.
In the global world in which we live, it is increasingly important for our young people to have an understanding and appreciation of what makes Canada unique — our history, our landscapes, and our wonderfully diverse culture.
Through the detailed story journals and pages that accompany Maplelea dolls and their accessories, Canadian kids learn not only about what life is like in other parts of Canada, but see themselves reflected in the shared Canadian experiences and interests of the Maplelea Girls. And with the Maplelea&ME! dolls, a child has the freedom to create the very doll character that they want!
It has been my hope that the Maplelea stories inspire children to actively explore and celebrate all things Canadian. Through your photos which we have sprinkled throughout this website and in our mail order catalogue, we can see that your children have been doing just that — exploring and learning, and having fun doing it!
I am confident that a Maplelea doll will be a meaningful part of your child's formative years — it's a doll to be played with now and treasured forever.
We’ve taken extra care to ensure our products will stand the test of time. When the doll-playing years are finished, the doll can be tucked away lovingly with the story journal and accessories in our signature keepsake storage box to share with their own child someday.
Thank you for supporting our Canadian company and for making Maplelea such a trusted brand. It has been a bit of a risk, developing a toy that is meant for just the comparatively small Canadian market. But, with your overwhelming support, we have been able to grow and expand. Your support of our Canadian company ripples through the Canadian economy and makes us all stronger.
We always welcome your comments, feedback and suggestions.
