OPEN POSITION:
ECOMMERCE & TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST
Full-time, In-office Position, Newmarket, ON, Canada
Posted: September 13, 2025
Do you love figuring out how to make technology work smarter for a business? Do you want to put your ecommerce and digital marketing skills to use in a small but quickly growing company—without the stress of downtown commuting, and where your work has a direct impact on the company?
We’re Maplelea, a Canadian company that designs and sells our own line of Canadian-themed dolls and accessories directly to customers across Canada, the USA, and beyond. Our products celebrate Canada’s culture, heritage, and geography, and our customers range from kids to collectors (“kidults”) who love storytelling as much as we do.
We’re a small team (product development, warehouse, customer service, social media, and the founder) doing big things, and we’re looking for a smart, hands-on Ecommerce & Technology Specialist to help us scale.
This is a role for someone who enjoys both the complex and the everyday: you might be optimizing our Shopify site or Meta ads one moment, then figuring out why the printer isn’t working the next. You’ll bring the know-how we need to streamline processes, strengthen our ecommerce presence, and build systems that will help us grow sustainably. And, if it is something in which you are not an expert, you are the master of figuring it out and getting it done. We’re small, so you’ll also become a go-to leader in the office—teaching others, sharing knowledge, and keeping things running smoothly as our company scales.
What you’ll do:
- Technology & Systems – Keep our tech stack efficient, cost-effective, and well connected. Troubleshoot tech issues, big and small, and make sure the team is using tools effectively.
- Ecommerce – Optimize our Shopify store (SEO, product pages, search, customer experience), Amazon listings, SHOP, Pinterest, Google Merchant Centre, and others.
- Digital Marketing – Improve Meta ads and tracking, email marketing flows, and help set best practices for social posts and storytelling.
- Customer Experience – Streamline customer support through tools like Gorgias, improve self-service options, and support our junior social media and customer service staff.
- Processes & Reporting – Develop KPIs, improve workflows (inventory, fulfillment, bookkeeping), and build systems so our business runs more smoothly.
What you bring:
- Strong background in ecommerce, preferably with direct-to-consumer, product-based businesses.
- Experience with Shopify (or similar), email marketing, Meta ads (organic + paid), Amazon, and customer service/fulfillment systems.
- The ability to quickly evaluate tech and business opportunities—deciding what’s worth implementing.
- A creative flair for design, writing and content creation
- A knack for teaching others, solving problems, and keeping things organized.
- An interest in Canadian culture, history, and geography—and in the stories behind our dolls, our company, and our country.
- Bonus: experience and/or education in child development, education, social policy, or Canadian studies.
What we offer:
- A friendly, small-office environment where your work really matters. You’ll be working directly with the founder.
- A five-minute commute if you live in Newmarket or Aurora.
- Predictable hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30–4:30. No evenings. No weekends. A slightly shorter workday may be accommodated for an exceptional local candidate.
- The chance to grow with a company that’s expanding quickly, with lots of opportunities to make a difference.
- Competitive salary based on experience.
How to apply:
Send your resume, with a short letter attached, to Kathryn Morton, president/founder, telling me why this role excites you—and what you’d bring to our Maplelea team. kathryn.g.morton@maplelea.com.
