Inspired by Inuit design, Saila's amauti keeps her warm during the cold Arctic winter.
Saila's amauti blends traditional design with modern materials to make the perfect winter garment that Saila is so proud to wear. It is trimmed with colourful gross grain and rickrack, and embroidered ulu.
The ulu is a traditional Inuit women's knife with a crescent-shaped blade. Saila's grandmother is teaching her not only how to use it, but the cultural traditions behind it, as Saila tells you in her journal pages.
This garment is slipped over the head and tied with the colourful braided cord. The hood of the amauti is big enough that Saila's puppy, Nanuq, can snuggle down inside.

I'm so happy to be able to review this amazing piece of MAPLELEA clothing. I appreciate that the Utu Amauti is so true to the actual Inuit design. The colors are very becoming on Saila and the fit is exceptional. I think my favorite part (and a total surprise) is how the amauti hood functions. I expected something oversized and bulky but this is not the case. When the hood is folded back, it is constructed as to lie perfectly flat around her back and shoulders and to not appear bulky in the least. And yet when raised, it's big enough for Saila's head as well as her little pup! Quite a feat and kudos to your MAPLELEA designers!
It is absolutely beautiful! The quality of the product is top notch and the attention to detail is what makes it for me. It was definitely worth the wait!!!
The new fuschia Ulu is a very nice, well made item. I like the quality of the materials and detailing. I could have used a notation in the packaging with tips on how to put it on the doll. The ulu is a pullover garment, so does not open with a zipper or Velcro. It took some experimenting to realize that I had to position the dolls arms straight upward, slipping them into the sleeves to get it on. It’s a somewhat snug fit so that was the only way that I was able to get both arms into the sleeves. This could be tricky for young children. A little notecard with a diagram or simple illustration would have helped.
It looks so cosy with fleece lining, especially the hood that wraps around her head.
I bought the Amautii for my grandaughter, she is Inuk this is their traditional clothing,the products are individually packaged. I felt like being a little girl againshe will love it at Christmas!
