Here's how to enter

1.    Decide who you are designing for. Is your outfit for a specific Maplelea Girl, or for everyone?

2.    Draw your outfit. Sketch and colour your design by hand. Trace our doll template or draw your own sketch. A front view is enough, but if you want to include the back view you can. No computer or AI drawings, please.

3.    Write your Journal Page. About 250 words, handwritten or typed, in English or French, and in your own words (no AI). See the Journal Page tips below.

4.    Fill out the Entry Form. We need all your details, so we can contact you if your design is chosen. Plus, give your outfit a name and list every piece that comes with it.

5.    Send it all in (All parts of the Entry Package) in whichever way is easiest:

Email: Send your completed Entry Package as attachments to submissions@maplelea.com. Use the subject line “Design Contest 2027” followed by the entrant’s name and the outfit name.

Mail: Maplelea – Design Contest 2027, 619 Steven Court, Unit 6, Newmarket, ON L3Y 6Z3,Canada

Entering more than one outfit?

Submit each online or emailed entry separately (one entry per email). Mailed entries may share one envelope. Be sure to put your name and the outfit name on all pages of your Entry Package, in case they get separated.

Tips for a winning Entry

Want your design to stand out? Here’s what we love to see.

Be inspired by Canada. Designs should reflect Canadian heritage, culture, and/or geography, and/or the personality and interests of the character you’re designing for. Everyday clothes, party wear, pajamas, sports outfits, historical clothing, and outfits with accessories are all welcome.

Designing for a Maplelea Girl? Re-read her journal, research the place in Canada she calls home, and learn about her interests, so the outfit will truly reflect her.

Designing for any Maplelea doll? Be inspired by Canada’s people, places, and culture. Pick one unique location or aspect of Canada, or celebrate Canada in general. Or, inspire kids to lead a healthy, active life!

Great ideas beat great art. We’re looking for creativity, not professional artwork! Coloured pencils, markers, paints, and crayons are all welcome. Label the important details so our judges can see your idea.

Keep accessories realistic. Accessories are fun, but designs requiring costly new plastic molds may not be practical for us to produce.

Name your outfit! At Maplelea, we love plays on words, alliterations, and fun Canadian puns.

List every piece. A dress? Headband? Shorts? T-shirt? Bag? Shoes? Tell us everything that comes with your outfit on the Entry Form.

Make your Journal page shine!

Journal Pages are a very important part of Maplelea products, so every entry needs one. You can see examples below.

Length: Most Maplelea Journal Pages are about 250 words. You may write up to 300 words, though we may edit a winning Journal Page to be shorter. A Journal Page may instead include an activity or quiz, or contain more graphics, or photos. It should fit our usual double-sided format.

Your style: Handwritten or typed is fine, in French or English. You can add hand-drawn graphics or simply suggest illustrations or photos for us to add. We’re looking for the overall idea or story, and our team can polish a winning Journal Page for publication.

For a Maplelea Girl: Write in the first person, in her voice. She can tell a creative story or talk about something important to her, as long as it suits her character.

For any Maplelea doll: Write in the third person, as though the author is talking to the reader. Include something interesting about Canada and/or the activity connected with the outfit.

Official Contest Rules & Terms

The fine print. This part is for the grown-ups, and for anyone who likes to read the rules before they play.

Click each heading below to open up our Contest Rules & Terms, and learn more.

● The contest is open to anyone worldwide, and of any age. No purchase is necessary to enter or win.

● Entrants under age 18 must have permission from a parent or legal guardian, who must complete the guardian consent section of the entry form. Entrants ages 18 and older may enter on their own.

● Employees of Avonlea Traditions Inc. (Maplelea), their immediate family members, and individuals directly involved in organizing or judging the contest are not eligible to enter.

● Each person may submit more than one entry. Each entry consists of three separate parts: an Entry Form, a Journal Page, and a Design Drawing. Coordinating outfits must each have their own three parts. Please identify them as coordinating entries on each Entry Form. Each winning outfit receives the full prize package.

● Each entry must be the work of one individual. For classrooms, groups, siblings, and friends, each designer must complete their own Entry Form, Journal Page, and Design Drawing. We encourage you to share this contest with your Doll Club, Girl Guide Unit, friend group, or whomever else might be interested.

● Please complete all required Entry Form details.

● If important information or materials are missing, or we cannot make out the entry, we may not be able to consider it.

● Online and emailed files should be clear PDFs, JPGs, or PNGs. For email entries, please ensure that all files are sized small enough to send in one email.

● The prize is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. The $100 CAD Maplelea Store Credit may be used toward products available on Maplelea’s website, subject to the terms provided with the credit.

● The winning design may undergo changes during product development. Maplelea reserves the right to modify colours, fabrics, materials, patterns, embellishments, accessories, construction details, packaging, and other features. Maplelea may also edit or revise the Journal Page content. The final manufactured product may differ from the original contest submission.

● Maplelea cannot guarantee a  manufacturing or release date. If a winning outfit has not been anufactured by December 31, 2027, the winner may, if they wish, choose two other outfits then available on Maplelea’s website instead, or may keep the right to receive two sets of their winning outfit if it is eventually manufactured. If Maplelea decides not to manufacture the winning outfit, the winner will still receive the $100 CAD Store Credit and may choose two other available outfits.

● The winner will not receive royalties, commissions, licensing fees, or other compensation from sales or use of the winning design beyond the stated contest prize.

● Maplelea regularly develops its own
outfits and accessories and may already be working on ideas similar to an entry. Different entrants may submit similar designs, and some themes or features are common. Maplelea may independently create, manufacture,
or sell similar products without providing compensation or credit solely because of those similarities.

● An entrant does not obtain exclusive rights to an idea, style, theme, or commonly used design feature by submitting it. Maplelea may select one of two similar contest submissions without owing a prize or compensation to the other entrant.

● The winning design may be featured on our website, in newsletters, on social media, and in other Maplelea promotional materials.

● If selected as a winner, the entrant gives Maplelea permission to use, adapt, reproduce, manufacture, promote, and sell the winning design,
outfit name, and accompanying journal content without additional payment beyond the stated prize.

● Entrants provide their legal name and contact details privately. Winners may choose the name and general location to be used publicly, such as a first name and last initial, a pseudonym, or "Northern Ontario.” We will not publish a winner’s full address or contact information. We will use contact information to administer the contest and contact winners, not to publish entrants’ personal details.

● Maplelea may email a winner (or their guardian) to confirm details, eligibility, and any necessary permission or paperwork. We may invite a winner
to share a photograph of themselves, but providing a photograph is optional and any publication would require separate consent.
