It’s nearing the end of June, and that means time to celebrate the beginning of summer holidays and the July 1st long weekend - Canada Day.

There had been a heat wave on Salt Spring Island, but as is often the case, there are cool days too. |
For their get-together to plan their celebration, Saila had brought her new journal and Charlsea had a map of Canada and an old illustration of Niagara Falls. They both enjoyed finding out about Canada—what was happening now and how things had been in the past.
There are so many interesting and beautiful places in Canada. The Maplelea Girls wished they could see them all.
As they sat around the campfire, they put their heads together and came up with all sorts of ideas of things they could do—a picnic by the lake and maybe a sleepover! They could stay up extra late and watch the moonlight dance on the water, and maybe tell stories in the dark.
And the next morning when they wake up—it would be Canada Day! Oh what fun it is to plan a celebration!
